Roosevelt signed into law Executive Order 9066 setting up the West Coast of mainland U.S. as the Military Exclusion Zone where those persons of Japanese ancestry were not allowed. This then permitted the evacuation and internment of 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry in ten concentration camps away from coastal areas.
